Jahmai Simpson-Pusey Reveals Rodgers Conversation That Sealed Celtic Move

Celtic have brought in talented defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on a season-long loan, with the 19-year-old arriving from Manchester City after impressing in Premier League 2.

His switch to Glasgow follows a standout season where he was named City’s Player of the Season, showing his quality as a calm and skillful centre-half.

Simpson-Pusey chose Celtic over other offers after a long discussion with the club’s management. He comes with a clear goal to establish himself in the backline and help Brendan Rodgers’ side keep winning at home while making an impact in Europe.

The Englishman, who has worked under Pep Guardiola and trained with some of the top players in world football, says his time at Manchester City has made him sharper in his decisions and more composed in possession. These traits, along with his physical strength, should give Celtic extra options at the back.

With the season already underway and big games coming up, Simpson-Pusey wants to settle in quickly, wear the Hoops and play his part in another trophy-winning year at Celtic Park.

He said: (Celtic TV), “It’s great, it’s such a big club. I’m happy to come here and play in front of the fans and play for the team.

“I had a big, long conversation with the manager. I liked what he was saying to me about the club, how much he appreciates the club and how much Glasgow appreciates the club. I want to go somewhere where I’m appreciated.

“It’s a big opportunity. I want to show my talent, show my levels, help the team win the league again and do well in the European Cups.

“I’d probably say John Stones. From the first game I played with him I felt very comfortable. He’s just a very composed, top player.”

His admiration for Stones hints at the type of defender Celtic supporters can expect. Calm under pressure, intelligent in possession and comfortable stepping into midfield when needed, he has the tools to bring composure and quality to the backline.

That knack for playing through the lines could be vital against teams who sit deep at Celtic Park.

Simpson-Pusey also understands the jump from academy football to the senior game. He knows the demands are tougher, the stakes are higher and consistency is crucial. He arrives determined to adjust quickly to the speed and intensity of the Scottish Premiership.

The young defender is fully aware of the pressure that comes with wearing the Hoops. At Celtic, winning is a requirement, and Simpson-Pusey has already set his sights on lifting silverware as part of his goals this season.

For the support, the arrival of a talented, ambitious, ball-playing centre-half brings real interest. If he can turn his hunger into commanding performances, Simpson-Pusey has the potential to become a key figure in Celtic’s pursuit of more trophies.
