Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have three midfield options they could bring to Old Trafford to partner alongside Bruno Fernandes for next season, according to reports.
The Red Devils have been tipped to sign a new midfielder this summer as part of the Manchester United first-team squad rebuild under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Amorim’s options for his United tactical system are limited and the 40-year-old Portuguese coach is believed to be keen on securing a new defensive midfielder.
The United manager had to contend with injuries to his midfield last season and Amorim also saw Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen leave Old Trafford this summer.
Bruno Fernandes is expected to play deeper for United as part of the midfield pivot after the signings of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

Man Utd have both Atalanta ace Ederson and Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz as ‘alternative’ choices to consider
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano explained that Manchester United would look at an alternative midfield profile fit after Tottenham signed Joao Palhinha on loan.

United were linked with Joao Palhinha and Fabrizio Romano said that the Red Devils had “considered the opportunity” to land the Bayern Munich midfielder this summer.
However, TEAMtalk now reports that United have ‘alternative’ options to Bayern loanee Palhinha and the Red Devils have ‘three names under consideration.’
Ederson has been subject to United’s transfer interest in recent months and the 26-year-old Atalanta defensive midfielder is one option that the Red Devils could explore.
The Brazil international is under contract until 2027 and Serie A outfit Atalanta are reportedly demanding a fee around £63m before they let United-linked Ederson leave the club.
Joining Ederson on the alternative choices that United could pursue is Douglas Luiz, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at Serie A outfit Juventus.

Despite United’s interest in both Atalanta’s Ederson and Juventus’ Luiz, it is believed that Ruben Amorim is keen for a reunion with Sporting CP skipper Morten Hjulmand.
TEAMtalk reports that Ederson, Luiz and Morten Hjulmand are all on United’s ‘shortlist,’ but the Sporting and Denmark midfielder is Amorim’s ‘top choice.’
Hjulmand has been linked with Juventus and Manchester City and is under contract with Sporting until 2028, with the United target’s release clause set at €60m.
