The latest Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle, Aston Villa and more.
It’s once again time for our regular round-up and review of the juiciest new Premier League transfer stories – and we’ll kick things off with news of a potentially titanic transfer tug-of-war between old rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.
Both sides are seemingly in the market for another striker and should they fail to sign Benjamin Šeško and Alexander Isak respectively then they could turn to an alternative, according to Caught Offside – PSG striker Gonçalo Ramos.
The Premier League pair are said to be “assessing the possibility of a summer move” after the young Portuguese forward lost his place in PSG’s starting line-up despite scoring 19 goals last season, mostly from the bench. Liverpool are said to be interested “in particular”.
Apparently any deal for Ramos would need to “come close” to the €65m (£56m) fee that PSG paid for him back in 2023, but the European champions are “open to a sale”. Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Napoli and Juventus are all said to be monitoring the situation, as well.
The 3AM Verdict: Every club listed here seems to have a striker further up their list of priorities this summer, save perhaps for Napoli, but it does look increasingly unlikely that Manchester United and Liverpool will land their first choices. Ramos could well come into the picture, then, but it won’t be something that gets sorted in the next few days. A slow-burner for the very end of the transfer window, perhaps.
Newcastle put rising midfield star on their ‘target list’
Over to Sport Witness now, who cover a new report from Belgium which suggests that Newcastle United have added 21-year-old Royal Antwerp midfielder Mahamadou Doumbia to their “target list” this summer.
The African media had already connected Doumbia with a move to Tyneside, but we now get connection from a local source, who also suggest that Eintracht Frankfurt could be interested too. Doumbia himself is said to be “aware” of the burgeoning battle for his services, but it’s not made clear whether he has a preference.
Newcastle “haven’t made an offer yet”, according to the story, and there is a suggestion that the Malian may struggle to get a work permit as he hasn’t played for his country as yet – it’s suggested that Doumbia could be bought and then immediately loaned out elsewhere to qualify. No transfer fee is suggested.
The 3AM Verdict: Although Doumbia’s name hasn’t been mentioned much in the British press, the fact that sources in both Africa and the Benelux are corroborating Newcastle’s interest suggests that there’s some fire to go with all the smoke. Whether technicalities dissuade Newcastle from making a bid remains to be seen, but the interest seems to be real enough.
Aston Villa ‘rival’ Crystal Palace in battle to sign striker
We’ll round things off with news from two teams who have been rather quiet so far this summer – Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, who are now “ready to rival” each other in the race to sign OGC Nice forward Evann Guessand, according to TBR Football.
Villa are said to be “willing to outbid” Palace for the Ivory Coast international, who is “understood to be valued at £22m” by his present employers. The reports comes a week or so after Palace were alleged by other reports to be close to a deal for the 24-year-old, who can play as a centre-forward or as a winger.
It’s also suggested that were Villa to complete a deal for Guessand then they would become “more willing” to let Ollie Watkins leave amid interest from Manchester United, although that appears to be speculation as opposed to sourced information.
The 3AM Verdict: A few different teams have been linked with Guessand and it’s tricky to tell who’s really winning the race. The primary source for Villa’s willingness to weigh in appears to be The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, should that influence your opinion, but as it stands we’re sitting comfortably on the fence and suggesting that while Guessand will be on the move, we don’t yet have a clear picture of where he’s going.
