Manchester United see Samu Aghehowa and Evangelos Pavlidis as alternatives to Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United are looking at Porto star Samu Aghehowa and his Benfica counterpart Evangelos Pavlidis as alternatives should a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko fall through, according to the Sun.

The Red Devils have tabled a bid of €85 million for the Slovenian international, but it remains to be seen whether the Bundesliga club will accept it.

Sesko wants to join Man United, but a move is far from sealed and the Old Trafford club are keeping their options open.

Aghehowa has been on their radar for a while and head coach Ruben Amorim is keeping tabs on the 21-year-old Spain international and Pavlidis should he need to go for other striking options.

Both have impressed in the Primeira Liga in recent seasons, with the Greece international notching 30 goals in 57 games across all competitions last term.

The 26-year-old was in fine form in the Eredivisie before moving to Portugal last summer, bagging 80 goals in 137 appearances for AZ Alkmaar.

Aghehowa ended his debut campaign in the Portuguese top-flight with 27 goals in 45 matches, and the 6ft 4in hitman has the physicality needed to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Newcastle United once wanted the former Atletico Madrid striker and he could be perfect for the Red Devils.

Amorim wants a new number 9 as he does not trust Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee to lead his attack going forward, and either of the aforementioned duo could prove to be an upgrade on his current striking options at Man United.

They will not cost as much as Sesko in terms of transfer fees and wages, and the Old Trafford club will not have to sell players before signing either.

The Leipzig star remains their top target after his performances in the Bundesliga over the last two seasons, and fans are also convinced he is the real deal after Arsenal attempted to sign him before later opting for Viktor Gyokeres.
