“Bite-Your-Kneecap-Type Guys”
August 5th, 2025
Bucs rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish.
Fun time today hearing Lavonte David give a scouting report on the Bucs rookie cornerbacks and assess what he likes in corners overall.
David was a terror at practice today after several days off with a minor undisclosed injury. It seems on one of those days he found time to chat with the Green Light with Chris Long podcast.
Long asked about rookie cornerback Benjamin Morrison, the Bucs’ second-round pick. David lumped him in with third-round pick Jacob Parrish.
“Playing corner you got to be real confident and [Morrison] got it. He got that twitch,” David said. “He got that competitive nature in him. He never wants to lose. He never wants to lose a rep, and that’s what I love about him, man.
“When you look at a DB, right, and they get a pass caught on them or whatever, you want to see them get upset about it. You know what I’m saying? And he’s one of those dudes who’s like that. Nobody wants a DB who don’t compete. He’s one of those guys who definitely compete, and our other rookie [corner] as well, Jacob Parrish. Both those guys are feisty, competitive, bite-your-kneecap-type guys at corner. When you see that out of your DBs, all that does is give you a lot of confidence.”
Joe’s noticed the same thing about Morrison and Parrish. They’re talented as well as very scrappy. The latter may be a function of how hard they’re fighting now for playing time.
This is no Vernon Hargreaves situation in 2016, when the rookie cornerback was gifted a job.
Joe wonders who else David considers a bite-your-kneecap-type guy at corner?
