Leipzig Look to Sign Liverpool Ace as Replacement for Chelsea Target With PSG Clause

As transfer expertFabrizio Romanopreviously reported, Leipzig signed Simons for €80 million, with €55 million paid up front. The Dutch midfielder is under contractthrough June 2027, and PSG included a sell-on clause that guarantees them a share of any future transfer.

That approach is already working out for PSG. According toThe Athletic’s Adam Crafton, the French club received €17 million (£15 million) from Hugo Ekitiké’s move to Liverpool thanks to a similar clause.

Romano also noted that Chelseaare making real progress in talks over personal terms. Simons is reportedly open to the switch and interested in joining the Premier League side, although discussions arestill ongoing.

With Simons on the move this month, Leipzigare looking for a replacement for the former PSG standout. On Tuesday,The Athletic reported that Leipzighave contacted Liverpool over the potential signing of Harvey Elliott.

Despite the interest in Elliott, the reportdoes mention that while talks are not currentlyat an advanced stage, discussions between the clubs are ongoing.

Elliott started only two Premier League games for Liverpool during the 2024-25 season, bothcoming after Arne Slot’s team had already clinched the title. He made 28 appearances across all competitions, finishing with five goals and three assists.

It will be interesting to see if Leipzigdecide to close this deal with Elliott or give the green light for Simons to leave, even though they have no replacement.
