The summer transfer window shows no sign of quietening down for Newcastle United and their rivals with a lot of talk surrounding proposed activity before the start of the new season.

Eddie Howe's side have so far seen three new players arrive at St James' Park. Winger Antonito Cordero joined on a free transfer form Malaga, but has since headed to Belgian side KVC Westerlo on loan for the season.

The Magpies have also seen Sweden forward Anthony Elanga and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale arrive at the club, as the side prepare for an exciting campaign that also includes Champions League football.

The big talking point of the window so far is their chase for striker Benjamin Sesko. Newcastle are locked in a battle with Manchester United for the RB Leipzig man - and they have made a second offer of just under £70million.

There also remains talks over interest from Liverpool in Alexander Isak, although the club are standing firm on their star man, indicating strongly that he's not for sale.

The first game of the season could see a slightly different squad to that that finished last season - so we've taken a look at a couple of the latest stories from in and around St James Park and also given our own thoughts;

Jackson 'talks' held

Newcastle have held club-to-club talks with Chelsea over striker Nicolas Jackson, according to reports.

Ben Jacobs claims that the striker is one of the attacking options on Newcastle's list this summer, alongside their pursuit of Sesko. Chelsea are also said to be open to a sale of a player they paid £32million for, two summers ago.

ChronicleLive says: The fact Newcastle are looking at strikers amid their chase for Sesko is good news and, in a dream scenario, Newcastle would sign both given the uncertainty over the future of Alexander Isak this summer.

Either as an alternative or alongside Sesko, Jackson should be cheaper than the Slovenia goal-getter, and he has proven he can score goals in the Premier League.

Sesko warning sent

Newcastle and rivals Man Utd have been warned that Sesko won't be prolific in the Premier League.

Former professional player turned pundit, Andy Townsend, has raised a few doubts about the player moving to England and how he will adapt.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "I don't think he's going to be the most prolific that we've seen on these shores.

"But if you look at his record in the Bundesliga - and all in with his European performances and cups - he's got 20-plus each season. And he's 22, so he's a very young man. He certainly looks quick enough.

"How aggressive he is and how aggressive he needs to be [could be questioned].

"But he's certainly very gifted technically."

He added: "One of the most disappointing things about him is that he doesn't hold the ball up well enough.

"He's quite a big boy, but he doesn't hang on to it very well, he doesn't seem to protect it and drop it off."

ChronicleLive says: There's no doubt that, especially with the money being talks about, Sesko will be a risk, but when is a transfer from overseas not? While it still has its differences, the Bundesliga is probably the most similar European division to the Premier League, and strikers have shown that can make the adaptation.

Erling Haaland, Son Heung-min and Roberto Firmino are just three players who have successfully made that move. If Newcastle can complete the transfer, they will hope that Sesko can do the same.
