LeBron James Finals jersey at center of Miami Heat theft scandal

Former Miami Heat staffer Marcos Thomas Perez has been charged with stealing and selling game-worn jerseys and memorabilia worth millions, including a record-breaking LeBron James Finals jersey. The alleged thefts spanned nearly a decade and were uncovered after a federal raid.

A former Miami Heat security officer is facing serious federal charges after allegedly stealing millions of dollars worth of memorabilia — including more than 400 game-worn jerseys — from the team over nearly a decade.

According to TMZ, The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced Tuesday that Marcos Thomas Perez, 62, used his access to the Kaseya Center’s equipment room between 2016 and 2025 — while working first for the Heat and later for the NBA — to systematically steal valuable team property.

According to federal prosecutors, the equipment room contained “hundreds of game-worn jerseys and other memorabilia” that were being preserved for display in a future Miami Heat museum. Instead, Perez allegedly helped himself to the goods — then sold them through various online marketplaces.

The feds say Perez made $2 million over a three-year span from just 100 sales — including a LeBron James NBA Finals jersey that fetched $100,000. That very jersey later sold at Sotheby’s for a staggering $3.7 million, setting a new record for the most expensive LeBron James game-worn jersey ever sold.

When authorities raided Perez’s home on April 3, they reportedly seized nearly 300 more items, believed to be stolen team property.

Perez, a retired Miami Police officer, appeared in federal court this week and has been charged with one count of transporting and transferring stolen goods in interstate commerce.
