ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (WIBW) - The Kansas City Chiefs can’t find too much to complain about when it comes to the offense.
That’s what happens when you’ve played in the last three Super Bowls.
Despite all the success, quarterback Patrick Mahomes is even more hungry for excellence as an offensive unit.
“There’s an obsession that he has at being perfect at what he does on the mental side,” offensive coordinator Matt Nagy told reporters after practice on Tuesday. “He doesn’t take calling a play for granted. Getting the formation right, he wants to be great at that. When his teammates and everybody see that, it goes onto them as well.”
The Chiefs started the summer by focusing on the fundamentals as a group. Now that camp is a few weeks through, more attention is being put towards the chemistry between Mahomes and his pass-catchers.
“The throws he makes, it’s just incredible,” tight end Robert Tonyan said. “The windows he’s fitting them in, and the anticipation. The command in the huddle is just awesome.”
“With these wide receivers, working on that timing, I think you’re seeing a trust element with him and some of the guys,” Nagy said. You’ll get to see some of that with these guys in the preseason, we’ll have some guys that stand out and show what they can do."
The Chiefs will take on the Arizona Cardinals in their first game of the preseason on Saturday night.
