Wolverhampton Wanderers are hoping to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer
The new Premier League season is fast approaching and Wolverhampton Wanderers have much to consider as the West Midlands club head into what could be an important season.
Key players have been lost this summer and the pressure is on for new singings such as David Moller Wolfe and Jhon Arias to adapt quickly to England and help avoid the club being dragged towards the wrong end of the table once again.
Vitor Pereira worked wonders after arriving at Molineux in December and will hope to continue inspiring his side ahead of what could be a competitive Premier League season. Further reinforcements may be required before then, though, with gaps in the squad which Pereira and the club hierarchy may still hope to fill before the transfer window slams shut. One potential signing may have reached a major obstacle, with Wolves left in a difficult position due to recent complications.
Juanlu situation ‘could become strained’ - reports
There is a complicated situation currently going on at Sevilla regarding Wolves target Juanlu. That is according to Sport Witness, who cite Mucho Deporte in stating that the versatile 21-year-old winger and full-back is not convinced by a move to Molineux. The Spain U21 international is reportedly ‘determined’ to move to Serie A champions Napoli, but it is currently Wolves who are showing the most concrete interest in the player. A £15million move was previously reported to be ‘very close’.
Sevilla are attempting to convince Juanlu’s agents of the value surrounding a move to Wolves, such as the potential exposure he could gain from playing in the Premier League. The La Liga side need to sell quickly in order to fund transfer moves of their own and fear that Napoli are taking too long to come forward with an offer, despite having won over the player with promised a five-year deal in Naples.
The report states that Juanlu’s situation at Sevilla ‘could become strained’ and ‘tense’ if the player continues to hold off a move to Wolves and keep the Old Gold ‘at arm’s length’. Bournemouth are also said to have registered an interest in the Olympic gold medallist, but a move to Molineux has moved forward the most at present.
‘Very brave’, ‘excellent’ Juanlu
La Liga expert Ivan Fuente previously said of Juanlu in 2024: “He is a very brave player, who specialises as an attacking full-back with excellent dribbling skills. He’s also strong defensively with good tackling ability and he possesses good anticipation to steal the ball back. [Juanlu] Sánchez, perhaps, lacks consistency throughout the full game and he can become disconnected but that should improve as he gains experience.”
Wolves need bodies through the door before the end of the transfer window. Right-back is a particular position of worry following the departure of Nelson Semedo and Wanderers will need this situation surrounding Juanlu resolving quickly in case they are forced to move onto other targets. The Spaniard’s ability to play either at full-back or on the wing makes his signing an attractive proposition, so the club should do all they can to convince the player and his agents that this would be the right move for the next step in his young career. If Napoli were to strengthen their pursuit with a formal offer, Wolves may be forced to move on if the stance of the player remains the same.
