‘Big Opportunity,’ Admits New Bhoy

NEW Bhoy Jahmai Simpson-Pusey was sold on Celtic after a chat with boss Brendan Rodgers.

The 19-year-old Manchester City centre-back has joined the champions on a season-long loan and is eager to show his qualities in Scottish football.

Simpson-Pusey, who will wear the No.4 shirt, said: “I had a long conversation with the manager and I liked what he was saying to me about the club.

“He told me how much he appreciates the club and how much Glasgow appreciates the club.

“I wanted to go somewhere where, if I’m playing, I’ll be appreciated, so I felt like this was the best option for me.

“It’s great to be here. It’s such a big club and I’m happy to come here, play in front of the fans and play for the team.

PARADISE…Jahmai Simpson-Pusey arrives at Celtic.

“This is a big opportunity. I want to come here and show my talent and my levels.

“It’ll be good for me to come and hopefully help the team to win the league again and do well in Europe.”

After selling Gustaf Lagerbielke to Sporting Braga for £2million and allowing Maik Nawrocki to move on looan to Bundesliga 2 outfit Hannovover 96, the arrival of the teenage defender brings Rodgers’ choice for the two middle of the rearguard roles to five.

Simpson-Pusey can now battle with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Auston Trusty and Dane Murray for the pivotal positions in the back four.

Hoops gaffer Rodgers, speaking to Celtic TV, added: “I am really pleased we have been able to bring Jahmai to Celtic and I believe he will be an important, quality addition to our squad.

“Jahmai is a quick, dominant centre-half. He is a strong defender, but can also move the ball forward very well as we progress through the pitch.

“I know Jahmai is excited about this move and bringing him to the club creates even more competition which will only benefit us.

“I am sure he will settle in well with the squad as we get ready for the matches we have coming up at home and abroad.”

Ironically, Simpson-Pusey’s debut appearance in the City first team came against Celtic during the tour game in North Carolina last summer in which the Hoops triumphed 4-3.

Now he is looking forward to the delights of sampling a win in the green and white shirt.
