Everton are reportedly keen on securing the services of Como forward Assane Diao in this transfer window.

Diao, 19, joined Como from Real Betis in January and went on to score eight goals in 15 Serie A appearances for Cesc Fabregas’ side.

Everton are said to have submitted a £38.7million bid for Diao. However, Italian news website Sportmediaset reported on 29 July that Como rejected the offer, telling the Blues they want £64.6million before a deal can be achieved.

It remains to be seen whether or not Everton will return for the highly-rated Senegal winger, but any medical he does on Merseyside could be problematic.

Everton will gauge the risk/reward before signing Diao

Diao, who Everton were first linked with back in January, suffered a broken foot at the back end of last season, meaning he missed Como’s final five matches in Serie A.

It was a horrible way for the ex-Spain Under-21 international to end his campaign, especially as he scored twice in a 3-0 win over Lecce on 19 April before breaking down in training.

Dr Rajpal Brar believes that Diao’s foot injury, which required surgery, is a cause for concern for clubs who’ll be looking to sign the Como star this summer.

He told Goodison News: “Everton will likely take a closer look at his recent foot fracture to assess healing and future risk of injury.

“His game time last season was also not ideal, so it’s a major factor to consider as well.

“If the club are confident with their assessments and have gauged the risk or reward, then they should go ahead.”

David Moyes may ask the board to prioritise alternatives to Diao

David Moyes is wise to urge Everton to seek alternatives to Diao, as the 19-year-old is both expensive and too raw for immediate Premier League reliability.

Despite his potential, Diao’s limited senior experience suggests he’s not yet ready to consistently impact a demanding league.

His high transfer fee makes him a risky investment for Everton’s tight budget.

Moyes, aiming to bolster the attack with proven quality, would likely prefer a more seasoned, cost-effective option to ensure immediate contributions and align with Everton’s pragmatic transfer strategy for a top-half push.
