Exclusive: 'Top-quality' Arsenal star in line for new contract and pay rise if summer exit doesn’t materialise

TBR Football understands that Jakub Kiwior is expected to be offered a new contract if he stays at Arsenal this summer.

The Polish international has struggled to fully establish himself at the Emirates Stadium following his arrival from Spezia back in the summer of 2023.

The defender has found himself in a tricky position at Arsenal, stuck behind William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in the pecking order.

Kiwior has indicated to Arsenal he wants to leave, as TBR Football revealed last month, but he could still have a future in N5.

Jakub Kiwior set for new contract if he stays at Arsenal

Jakub Kiwior has lots of interest from clubs in Serie A, but there is a feeling at Arsenal that he can still play an important role in the squad, according to TBR Football chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey.

Kiwior impressed away at Real Madrid and most of the other matches he featured in during Gabriel’s spell on the sidelines towards the back end of last season. That is why Arsenal have been ready to offer Kiwior a new contract, which has been the case since May.

But with the Brazilian returning to training on Tuesday, the 25-year-old could quickly find himself back on the bench at Arsenal. There are plenty of clubs in Italy who want to bring him back, but the Gunners appear determined to keep him.

Bailey told TBR Football: “I believe he’s still got three years left on his deal. But the club recognises the shift he put in last season. They know he’s a top-quality Premier League defender, and they’re willing to give him a pay rise. Yes, there might be a contract extension involved too, but they also know he wants to play regular first-team football.

“We’ve been talking about him for three or four transfer windows now. He’s been on the radar of a lot of Italian clubs. It’s not surprising, especially considering the amount of managerial turnover in Serie A, that’s my understanding. We’ve seen a lot of changes at clubs like AC Milan, Juventus.

“It’s been tough for those clubs. When new managers come in, it becomes harder to move players on. But there are a lot of players who need to leave Italian clubs, and that could have a knock-on effect on the Premier League.”

There remains a strong chance that the Pole will depart the North London club this summer, but if not, Andrea Berta will attempt to tie him down to a new deal.

“So that coaching shake-up in Italy has had an impact, including on Kiwior. I still think we’ll see a lot of movement between Serie A and the Premier League. If Kiwior stays this window, I think he’ll get a new deal. But I also think there’s still a chance he leaves,” added Bailey.

Arsenal’s record with Jakub Kiwior after Gabriel’s injury

Arsenal’s record with Kiwior after Gabriel’s injury was pretty strong as they won six of their 13 matches and lost just three.

Two of those games were against the eventual Champions League winners, PSG, but otherwise, the Polish defender impressed.

The defender did feature in both of their wins over Real Madrid, with his display at the Emirates proving to be particularly impressive.

The Gunners are now keen to make sure he stays in North London, but will need to battle off interest from other clubs.
