If Not The Cleveland Browns, Where Will Kenny Pickett Spend The 2025 Season

The often argument you hear of why Kenny Pickett isn't going to be traded is that people say Andrew Berry added him first this offseason and traded assets so he can't be on the potential trade list.

If we go back to the 10th of March to when the trade was agreed, the Cleveland Browns had an injured Deshaun Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson who had struggled when he started and likely going to be on a practice squad next season. They needed to find a starting quarterback in free agency or the trade market, names like Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco. Where none of these players were set to do a deal immediately when free agency opened they needed to upgrade the position as the lack of a credible quarterback would impact other free agency moves for the team. He was added as a quality backup quarterback option type that could start if needed, as shown with his time on the Steelers.

After adding Pickett they have added a higher quality starting option as well as two rookies, this makes it look like he is the odd man out in the rotation battling for a role unless he beats Flacco out in the battle or the two rookies struggle that badly that neither can be the backup week one. These two things appear to be highly unlikely, meaning Pickett's time is limited.

He has a fully guaranteed contract worth $2,623,350, meaning if he is moved on then there is no dead cap remaining for the Browns. They could easily get something close to the 5th round pick they gave up from him or a player of equivalent value. If that is the cost for having quarterback security going into free agency and giving yourself options at sports most important position is worth having.

But if he isn't in Cleveland, where will he land.
