European club in pole position to sign “great” Liverpool player who’s keen on move – Sky Sports

A European club are now believed to be leading the race to sign a “great” Liverpool player, with the individual in question keen on the move.

This summer has already seen plenty of departures at Anfield, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s switch to Real Madrid the most high-profile departure.

Meanwhile, Luis Diaz has joined Bayern Munich and Jarell Quansah has moved to Bayer Leverkusen, with new signings also meaning Arne Slot’s squad has a very different look to it.

There is still time for further Liverpool departures, though, with Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez the standout names who could leave before the end of the summer transfer window.

According to Sky Germany [via Sport Witness], RB Leipzig are “intensively working” on signing Elliott from the Reds, sitting in pole position to snap him up.

The report also adds that the 22-year-old is interested in moving to the Bundesliga side, having held talks with Leipzig manager Ole Werner and the club’s sporting director Marcel Schafer.

The perfect summer move for Elliott

Elliott is such a talented young footballer who has enjoyed an impressive spell at Liverpool, with former midfielder Joe Cole heaping praise on him and talking up a summer exit:

“I love the kid, he plays football the right way. I am excited for his future. He has done a great job for Liverpool, but if he decides to move on, there are levels to move on again. That passion, he can show every week. Anyone outside the top six he comfortably walks into, and then two years on that level he comes back to Liverpool’s level and competes.”

In some ways, it will be sad to see Elliott leave Liverpool, considering how much he loves the club he grew up supporting, but it feels like the right decision for everyone concerned.

Slot can’t guarantee the Englishman regular minutes – he only started twice in the Premier League last season – and he is too gifted a footballer not to be a star man somewhere.

Leipzig would be an interesting next step for Elliott, allowing him to test himself in a foreign league, but if a switch there doesn’t materialise, he is easily good enough to start for most other Premier League teams.
