Onana delivers injury update as transfer speculation surrounding Man United stopper continues

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has said that he 'feels great' and is working towards being fit for the start of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

The Cameroon international is yet to feature for the Red Devils during pre-season due to a hamstring injury, but he did make the trip to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series.

Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton featured between the sticks on the US tour, and Man United will now play once more - at home to Fiorentina on Saturday - before beginning their 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils kick off their season against Arsenal on August 17, but it is unclear who will be between the sticks for the clash with the Gunners due to Onana's fitness issues.

It had been expected that Onana would return against Fiorentina, but the Cameroonian has suggested that he is not yet guaranteed to be fit for the contest with Mikel Arteta's side.

"I feel good, I feel great. It's been a few difficult weeks but yeah, hopefully, I will be back for the start of the season. I'm enjoying the training with my guys and we are looking forward," Onana told Sky Sports News.

Onana has been missing during pre-season due to a hamstring issue

Should Onana not be declared fit for the game against Arsenal, then it is likely that Bayindir would feature between the sticks, as he is the number two goalkeeper, with Heaton once again set to be the number three in 2025-26.

Bayindir's future is also being called into question, though, with the Turkey international said to be looking to move to a club which can offer him regular action.

Onana has been linked with a move away from Man United this summer, with the goalkeeper largely struggling during his two seasons in Manchester, but there is not an obvious taker for him at this stage.

It is thought to be possible that Bayindir will leave, opening the door for a new goalkeeper to be signed who is capable of pushing Onana, potentially Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens.

Will Mazraoui, Zirkzee, Martinez be fit for Arsenal clash?

Man United have also been without the services of Noussair Mazraoui, Joshua Zirkzee and Lisandro Martinez during their pre-season tour, with the trio again missing out against Everton.

Mazraoui and Zirkzee are dealing with minor issues, and it is believed to be possible that the pair will both be involved against Fiorentina, putting them in a position to potentially be in the squad against Arsenal.

However, Martinez, who has been absent with a serious knee injury since February, has only just resumed light training, so the Argentina international's return is still a long way off.
