Another huge season for Newcastle United is approaching, with the Premier League set to kick-off later this month. Now, an Opta supercomputer has predicted where they will finish.
Newcastle are coming off the best season in their recent history after winning the Carabao Cup and qualifying for the Champions League during the 2024/25 campaign.
Frustratingly, however, Eddie Howe has been unable to build on that to any meaningful degree thus far.
While the signings of Aaron Ramsdale and Anthony Elanga are positives, it has otherwise been a damaging summer at St James’ Park.
Indeed, Newcastle have endured a dreadful transfer window and have frequently missed out on key targets. Star player Alexander Isak, meanwhile, wants to leave.
Still, there are reasons to be positive. Newcastle boast some brilliant players, and perhaps their greatest manager in modern history.
Here’s where Opta have predicted Newcastle will finish in the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Liverpool – who want to sign Isak – are predicted to win the league again. Arsenal are tipped to come second, with Manchester City third and Chelsea finishing fourth. Aston Villa have been predicted to finish fifth.

Where the Opta supercomputer predicted Newcastle United will finish last season
Before last year’s campaign, the Opta supercomputer predicted that Newcastle would finish fifth in the 2024/25 season.
That, of course, was correct.
Newcastle ended up claiming fifth spot on a dramatic final day of the season. Howe’s side lost to Everton and risked missing out on the Champions League but were saved by Manchester United.
The Red Devils beat Villa in controversial fashion at Old Trafford, meaning Newcastle finished ahead of sixth-placed Villa in the Premier League table on goal difference.
