“Ready to spend £100m on me” – Evan Ferguson on ignoring Tottenham, Chelsea claims and general hype

Evan Ferguson joined AS Roma from Brighton last month on an initial loan deal with the option to buy. The move came after a poor loan spell at West Ham in the second half of last season.

The transfer to the Giallorossi will be a completely new journey for the Irishman, who was linked with huge money moves to Tottenham and Chelsea not too long ago.

Fitness problems have seen prolonged struggles, although he certainly appears to be in much better shape now.

Ferguson has now spoken to Gazzetta dello Sport about the decision to join the Italian side. When asked how he coped with hype earlier in his career, including talk of record breaking transfers and comparisons to some of the Premier League’s most legendary strikers, he brought up claims about the two London clubs.

Ferguson said, as relayed by [Corriere Giallorosso](https://www.corrieregiallorosso.com/ultime-notizie/ferguson-obiettivo-20-gol-e-riportare-la-roma-in-champions-i-friedkin-vogliono-fare-grandi-cose/): _“There’s a lot of talk. These are things I can’t control: I try not to think about them and just do my job well._

_“Like the story of Chelsea and Tottenham being ready to spend £100m to sign me. The valuations aren’t up to us, I don’t think about it. I don’t even know if it’s true. And I don’t question myself.”_

The Ireland international was also asked about his loan spell at West Ham last season.

He replied: _“It was a tough year. For the first six months, I lived with an ankle injury, then I decided to go to West Ham. It didn’t go the way I wanted, but now I feel very good physically.”_

Despite all the struggles, Ferguson remains ambitious and didn’t shy away when asked if could score 20 goals.

_“I don’t usually think about an exact number of goals. I definitely want to score in every game, even though I know it’s not easy. 20 goals? Let’s hope.”_

On his decision to join the Giallorossi, the striker said: _“It’s a club with a great history: this is a challenge, a new opportunity, I like different things. And then the Friedkins want to do great things.”_

Ferguson is still only 20-years-of-age and has a lot of time on his hands to prove himself once again.

New Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has a knack for bringing the most out of strikers and if Ferguson stays fit, he has an exciting season ahead.
