Marc Guehi 'makes feelings clear on next club' as Liverpool transfer race heats up

Marc Guehi, the Crystal Palace defender, would reportedly prefer a move to Liverpool if he were to leave his current club, although no offer has been made yet. The 25-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Palace, who have set a £40million asking price for him.

Liverpool were leading the race for Guehi, but their attention has since shifted to Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Premier League champions have already splashed out nearly £300m this summer and would need to fork out at least another £125m to secure Isak.

The potential record-breaking British deal for Isak could alter the course of Guehi's future. According to The Guardian, Newcastle might reignite their interest after making four unsuccessful bids of up to £70m last summer.

It's also suggested that the England international is content at Palace and would be open to running down the last 12 months of his contract before moving on a free transfer after the World Cup. This could work in Liverpool's favour, especially as centre-back Ibrahima Konate's contract also expires in June 2026 amid rumours of a move to Real Madrid.

Newcastle aren't the only club to have previously made a bid for Guehi. Tottenham tabled a £70m offer in January, which was also turned down, and the former Chelsea prospect went on to lead the Eagles to FA Cup victory.

Crystal Palace have been scouting Sporting Lisbon's Ousmane Diomande and Inter Milan's Yann Aurel Bisseck as potential replacements for Marc Guehi. Manager Oliver Glasner, however, would prefer to retain his captain for at least another season, despite a disappointing summer transfer window.

In an interview with the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung, Glasner expressed frustration over the club's transfer dealings, having only secured a £2m left-back and a free backup goalkeeper. "Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far," he lamented.

The Palace boss also revealed his expectations had not been met regarding squad reinforcements. "I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year. As of now, I have 17 outfield players. I hope we don't lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible."
