Manchester United need to do three things to complete Benjamin Sesko transfer

Man United want to sign Benjamin Sesko but Newcastle are refusing to go down without a fight.

United want Sesko

Benjamin Sesko is on the move this summer, and Manchester United and Newcastle are the two clubs battling it out to secure his services.

The Manchester Evening News reported on Wednesday that United are confident Sesko prefers a move to Old Trafford, but there could still be plenty more twists and turns to come.

Sesko's record doesn't exactly scream 'marquee signing', having played just two seasons in one of Europe's top five leagues, scoring 27 league goals during that time. However, at just 22 there is clearly still plenty more to come from the Slovenia international, meaning he fits the bill given the up-and-coming stars Ineos are keen to focus their attention on.

Whether that it what United need after their worst campaign in 51 years is a different matter.

United need to convince Sesko that they are a more attractive proposition than Newcastle, and that's no easy feat given the Tyneside outfit have Champions League football to offer.

However, Sesko's agent, Elvis Basanovic, has already outlined what prospective buyers will need to show his client if they're to sign him.

"It's not correct to speak about the names of clubs that are interested in Sesko, but maybe it is right to clarify a few things," Basanovic said previously.

"Let me tell you, Sesko is not competing with anyone. It's him vs him every day. We have a clear plan for the future and media speculation doesn't affect us. His numbers at his age are comparable to some strikers with already great careers.

"That confirms my words. He will move from RB Leipzig only when we recognise a special club. A special project with a special coach."

A special club embarking on a special project led by a special manager. Could it be Manchester United? Or could it be Newcastle United?

We're about to find out.
