Mads Hermansen to West Ham transfer takes twist ahead of Leicester City's big decision

The Mads Hermansen to West Ham transfer saga is not over yet despite the Hammers closing in on Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor.

Hermansen’s potential switch to the London Stadium looked off the cards when news emerged on Tuesday that West Ham were in the final stages of a deal for Victor.

Sky Sports had reported that the Hammers had diverted their attention away from Hermansen because of Leicester City’s price-tag, thought to be upwards of £20m.

But on Tuesday evening, reports from Danish outlet Bold said that West Ham and City continue to hold positive talks over a potential move and that negotiations are ongoing.

Bold also report that personal terms between Hermansen and West Ham have already been agreed.

City came into the summer expecting to sell their number one, letting him undergo groin surgery a few weeks before the end of the last season to help him get fit in time for the summer.

While the 25-year-old’s recovery took a little longer than expected, he was able to return to action at the weekend and played 90 minutes in City’s final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina.

It had been expected that Jakub Stolarczyk, who has been Hermansen’s deputy for the past two seasons, would take over as number one if and when the Dane departed.

But should Hermansen’s potential switch to West Ham not go through this week, manager Marti Cifuentes faces a call as to which goalkeeper he starts against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

The line-up against Fiorentina was expected to be close to the team Cifuentes plan to field in the Championship opener, and he showed he’s not afraid to use players who could leave before the end of the month, with Bilal El Khannouss and Boubakary Soumare also in the starting line-up.
