Newcastle United's search for a new striker remains ongoing, with the club seemingly likely to be forced to look at alternative targets.
The Magpies had submitted a bid for RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko last week and had hopes of bringing the Slovenia international to St James' Park. However, reports on Tuesday and Wednesday have indicated that Sesko may have chosen to sign for Manchester United instead.
If Sesko was to move to Old Trafford, it would see Newcastle look at other striker options in the transfer market. One centre forward who has been linked with a move to Tyneside is Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea.
The Senegal international has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer. Chelsea signing Joao Pedro and Liam Delap has seen Jackson's future become the subject of speculation, with Newcastle mentioned as a potential destination.
If Newcastle were to sign Jackson, they could have a couple of dilemmas to deal with this season. For starters, Jackson will serve a suspension at the start of the new Premier League campaign.
Jackson was shown a red card in Newcastle's win over Chelsea last season and was given a three-match suspension. The striker served the first two matches of the ban in the final two Premier League matches last term, but still has one fixture of the suspension to fulfil.
As a result, if Newcastle were to sign Jackson before the start of the new Premier League season, he would be unavailable for the opening fixture against Aston Villa on August 16.
Newcastle would also need to have a plan in place for Jackson's absence during the Africa Cup of Nations. The striker is expected to feature for Senegal at the tournament, which would see him unavailable for up to six Premier League matches as well as some Champions League fixtures across December and January.
