Darwin Nunez set for Liverpool exit after club to club agreement

Darwin Nunez’s time at Liverpool looks to be ending sooner than expected.

The Reds have reportedly agreed a deal with Saudi club Al-Hilal for the sale of the Uruguayan striker.

According to multiple sources (via Sky Sport Italy), the fee is set at around €65 million, including add-ons.

The 26-year-old joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022, arriving with big expectations and an even bigger price tag — a deal that could have hit £85m with all bonuses.

But after two seasons of inconsistency and missed chances, the Reds seem ready to move on.

Nunez struggled for regular minutes under new manager Arne Slot. He started only eight Premier League games last season and found the net just five times.

Not quite the return Liverpool hoped for when they made him one of their most expensive signings.

Now, Al-Hilal have reportedly offered Nunez a salary package that meets his demands. Talks over personal terms are said to be progressing well, and the deal could be completed soon.

Is selling Darwin Nunez a good decision by Liverpool?

That’s the million-pound (or maybe €65 million) question. On one hand, Liverpool are freeing up funds to chase top targets like Alexander Isak.

Their £110m bid for the Newcastle forward was already reportedly rejected, but a major sale like Nunez could boost their chances.

On the other hand, letting go of a player after just two seasons, especially one who still shows flashes of brilliance, carries risk. But football isn’t a charity, and the Premier League doesn’t wait. If you’re not scoring, you’re going.

Interestingly, Newcastle’s pursuit of a replacement for Isak fell apart after Benjamin Sesko reportedly chose Manchester United.

That could block Liverpool’s Plan A and leave them without both Nunez and Isak — a real transfer own goal if it unfolds that way.

Darwin Nunez is close to leaving Anfield for Saudi Arabia, but Liverpool’s striker puzzle is far from solved.
