Ah, Family Night. A tradition like no other, And I'm not just talking about the event itself, but also the overreactions and judgments made by fans based on viewing the on-the-field activities. Far be it from me to let the opportunity pass to give out my own polluted thoughts based on what I saw, so here goes.
It's Only Family Night, but... it wasn't anything more than an average showing by Jordan Love. Accuracy (especially on longer throws) was an issue and yes, he's still throwing off his back foot while fading away. Sure sometimes you have no choice, but I feel like it's a habit he is just having a hard time breaking.
It's Only Family Night, but... Jordan Morgan as a left tackle has a long way to go. The Packers would love for him to win the left tackle job, but I don't think that's going to happen, at least not this year. What I saw unfortunately matched up with what I wrote about him for the CHTV Draft Guide:
Morgan uses two-hand punches, not with independent hands, and can get his hands too wide, allowing rushers into his chest and giving up ground back into the quarterback... needs to hit the weight room to be able to hold up better against power. Overall, he has a lot of what the Packers look for—experience, movement ability, and multi-position versatility. Factor in an arm length below their threshold for tackles and Morgan is your classic Packers left tackle-to-guard convert who can play tackle if needed.
It's Only Family Night, but...Omar Brown is a future All-Pro. Ok, I'm just kidding. Honestly, when I heard the name Omar Brown it was like it was the first time, even though he was on the PS and even called up for a few games last season. I had no idea who he was.
It's Only Family Night, but...Matthew Golden will finish the season firmly established as their WR1.He's got the "it" factor, has passion for the game, works his ass off and he can actually CATCH THE FOOTBALL!
It's Only Family Night, but...Carrington Valentine is making my belief in him look good. I love his aggressiveness, which means sometimes he's going to beat, but which cornerback doesn't. Most of the time, he's pretty "sticky" on receivers and makes it difficult for them to run good routes. I'd be fine with him as the starter opposite Nixon with Hobbs and/or Bullard in the slot. I'm the conductor on the Valentine hype train.
It's Only Family Night, but...Kadeem Telfort is not long for this team. Pass rushers went around him like it was a Combine pass rush drill against the tackle dummies.
It's Only Family Night, but...It's obvious Brandon McManus is the greatest kicker in the history of the Green Bay Packers, um, I mean, Family Night.
It's Only Family Night, but...Barryn Sorrell has some "juice" going after the quarterback. I have no idea yet if he can hold up against the run, but I'm excited to see what he does in the preseason games.
It's Only Family Night, but...The defensive line as a group is looking strong. Kenny Clark looks like his old self, Gary is hyped up, LVN is showing signs of awakening, Wyatt has been quiet, though. Stackhouse, Cox and Sorrell have been flashing, Wooden or Brooks might be in danger.
Just a few of my polluted thoughts,,, but then again, it was only Family Night.
