Simon Jordan has advised Benjamin Sesko to join Newcastle over Manchester United this summer.

Former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan believes the RB Leipzig striker would face "less scrutiny" working under Eddie Howe compared to Ruben Amorim. Although Jordan admitted he held "reservations in the past" about the Newcastle manager, he now views the Carabao Cup champions as the ideal setting for Sesko's development in English football.

The Magpies and the Red Devils are locked in a battle for the Slovenian sensation’s signature. Both clubs have already submitted substantial bids for the 22-year-old.

Newcastle saw their first approach rejected, before returning with an improved package reportedly worth £70million plus add-ons, which was accepted. The Red Devils then joined the chase on Tuesday with a £65.1m bid plus £8.7m in additional payments, which has also been accepted.

Despite United's offer being lower, The Athletic reports that Sesko favours a move to Old Trafford, which could prove decisive in pushing through the transfer. No final agreement has been reached between the clubs, though negotiations are said to be advancing.

That goes against Jordan's counsel, who shared his thoughts on Sesko's dilemma on talkSPORT, arguing that Newcastle would represent the better option if wages weren't a factor.

"If I were in his shoes, if the economics of the deal were that I wasn't being compromised financially by going to Newcastle over Manchester United, I think it's a great move," Jordan said, before going on to discuss the former Bournemouth manager.

"I think Eddie Howe is a brilliant manager. I had my reservations about him in the past, I've had conversations already. I like him very much, and I think he's done a brilliant job. So I would be looking at Newcastle rather than Man United."

Jordan explained that playing under Amorim at United would subject Sesko to relentless scrutiny, whereas he'd have greater freedom to flourish under Howe's guidance. Jordan added: "I think because Newcastle comes with expectation, but doesn't come with the same pressure that Man United comes from.

"Whilst people focus on Newcastle, they focus on it because Newcastle makes a lot of noise, because it's a very passionate football club and the fans are very motivated by it. It doesn't have the day-to-day scrutiny that Man United has.

"It doesn't matter what happens, you can fart in the corridor of Man United – that's heard around the world. It's not the same at Newcastle."

United are optimistic that Sesko will opt for a move to Old Trafford, strengthening their attacking options after already securing Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and Wolves' Matheus Cunha this summer.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have viewed Sesko as the ideal replacement for Alexander Isak, who has caught Liverpool's eye with his dazzling displays. The Premier League champions have already tabled a £110m offer for the Swedish striker, which was rejected, but Howe appears willing to let the unsettled forward leave if Sesko, or another striker target, commits to the Magpies first.

The Red Devils are once again in a period of transition. In November 2024, they brought in Sporting CP boss Amorim to steer the club towards clinching European qualification in the Premier League, but another dreadful campaign saw them finish in 15th place and trophyless.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are on the rise after lifting their first piece of domestic silverware in 70 years in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool. They secured a fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season and will compete in the Champions League again this term.
