Rasmus Hojlund is resigned to being forced out by Manchester United if Benjamin Sesko completes a move to Old Trafford.
Sesko, 22, is poised to join United from RB Leipzig for upwards of €80million and the Manchester Evening News revealed in May that the club had planned to sell Hojlund amid their interest in recruiting a new centre forward.
Sources close to the Denmark international concede that if Hojlund is unwanted it could lift his game but, ultimately, he will have to seek a move before the transfer deadline on September 1.
Denmark will almost certainly qualify for the expanded World Cup next year and Hojlund lost his place in the team in June after a run of one goal in 15 games for the national team.
Hojlund said in Chicago last week he planned to stay at United but head coach Ruben Amorim refused to confirm if he would keep a player United bought in a £72m deal from Atalanta two years ago.
“I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens," Hojlund said. United explored the possibility of signing Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres and Ollie Watkins before they moved for Sesko.
United are also prepared to sell Hojlund at a loss under the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules. Hojlund joined United for an up-front fee of £64m and he is two years into a three-year contract, so his PSR value is calculated at £38.4m.
Hojlund managed only ten goals for United last season, with four of them coming in the Premier League.
