The Magpies have been overloaded in the goalkeeper department but Eddie Howe is about to reduce his pool of stoppers
Newcastle United head coach admits that he is expecting the departure of at least one goalkeeper in the remainder of the transfer window - with Odysseas Vlachodimos' Tyneside misery potentially close to an end.
The Greek international has played just half a game for the club competitively after his £20m move from Nottingham Forest failed to capture the imagination at St James' Park.
Newcastle may struggle to get their valuation on the 31-year-old goalie who has played zero minutes in pre-season with Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, Max Thompson, and John Ruddy all used ahead of him, and the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale on loan is set to shunt Vlachodimos further down the pecking order.
Dubravka is also a player who is expected to leave if Newcastle can find a new club for him before the window shuts.
Dubravka was scheduled to join Newcastle in South Korea only to be grounded by a shoulder issue. Meanwhile, Ramsdale's arrival has changed his status in the squad.
Howe told Chronicle Live: "Martin was scheduled to travel out but he had a shoulder problem and went to see a specialist (abroad) and I think he had an injection. We are awaiting feedback. I think he will be OK."
Vlachodimos was wanted by Real Betis earlier in the window but is on competitive wages and Newcastle need to strike the right deal to suit all parties.
Howe said: "Ody is one where something could happen to him in the next few days. There is quite a bit of interest in him, so I will let you know."
Howe has been snowed under with the transfer situation and in the absence of a sporting director he has been left juggling ingoings and outgoings.
He said on Sunday night in Seoul: "There's not much time left (to get a player in for Villa). Especially when you consider you have to get any player up to speed with how we play, whoever comes in.
"And get into the intricacies of what we do. It is not easy and it is not easy for people to do that straight away.
"We are still active in the market and looking for players."
