Rise of 17yo sensation at risk as Man Utd close in on Sesko

Manchester United are edging closer to securing the signature of RB Leipzig sensation Benjamin Sesko.

Man United have tabled €75 million plus €10m in add-ons to bring the 22-year-old to Old Trafford.

They have already struck an agreement on personal terms with Sesko, offering a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until June 2030.

If the Red Devils reach an agreement with Leipzig, Sesko will become their third marquee signing of this summer after Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

His arrival could cast serious doubt over the futures of fellow forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Hojlund is linked with a summer move to Italy but the Denmark international is adamant about staying at United and fight for his place.

If he stays put, rising star Chido Obi may find it increasingly difficult to earn consistent minutes with the senior squad.

The 17-year-old made his senior debut against Tottenham Hotspur in February under head coach Ruben Amorim.

He featured seven more times for the Red Devils, including a full 90-minute display against Brentford in the Premier League.

Obi moved to Carrington in October 2024 after he refused to sign a professional contract with Arsenal.

His performances at the academy level showed that he is a remarkable talent and has a maturity that belies his age.

He netted 14 goals in 14 games for United youth teams last term.

Obi is still five years younger than Sesko, but he will be eyeing opportunities in domestic cup competitions to accelerate his development.

With no European football on the calendar this season, United’s fixture list will be lighter, limiting minutes for emerging prospects.

We believe Obi will be used as a floater, switching between the Under-21s and first team depending on need and availability.

The Red Devils have long prided themselves on promoting young talent, and Obi remains firmly in their long-term plans.

For now, the youngster must continue to refine his game and remain patient in order to get continuous chances under Amorim.
