Where Opta's supercomputer thinks Newcastle United will finish in the Premier League next season

· 6 August 2025, 12:30

**If there were a league table for fan frustration, Newcastle United would probably be several points clear at the top, but as for where the Magpies will finish in the Premier League table come May is anyone's guess.**

Newcastle's transfer window has been an unmitigated disaster so far. Two new first-team signings have come in with Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale agreeing to join the cause, but beyond that, it has been nothing but bad news and frustration at every turn.

There's still a way to go yet, and Newcastle could still get a couple more bodies through the door, but they're now very unlikely to be transformational as the top players we've been looking at have all opted to go elsewhere.

It means we're set for another season relying on Eddie Howe getting his players to overachieve. With that in mind, it feels unlikely that Newcastle can pull off the impossible again and bag European football ... or does it?

Newcastle could sneak into Europe again - Sunderland are favourites to go down

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Opta Analysts have deployed their [supercomputer](https://theanalyst.com/articles/premier-league-predictions-2025-26-opta-supercomputer) to predict where every team will finish next season, and Newcastle, for all of their issues this summer, are still expected to be in the mix for Europe with a sixth place finish predicted.

Liverpool are expected to retain their title, and we imagine if they manage to pry Alexander Isak away from St James' Park this summer, those odds will only increase. Manchester United, without Benjamin Sesko have been placed in 12th, but if that deal goes through, we wonder if it will affect their placement.

Sunderland are predicted to be at rock bottom by some way, so you know, there could be some solid science behind this thing.

We'd be happy with sixth as things stand

----------------------------------------

To be honest, as things stand now, we'd snap your hands off for a sixth-placed finish next season. It would mean that Howe has worked his magic once again.

Another couple of signings of a decent quality, though, and we could maybe hope for a little better.

What do you think is a reasonable expectation after the summer window nightmare?
