Leeds United legend Mark Viduka says he was even better than Liverpool hero in his prime

Leeds United legend Mark Viduka was once a Premier League icon for the quality of his performances as the club’s centre-forward during his peak years.

It’s fair to say that Mark Viduka had an incredible career in England, but the best years were undoubtedly when donning a white shirt and scoring regular goals for Leeds United.

He left after the club’s relegation but was a vital player before then, including having a powerful voice in the dressing room as well. So much so that Viduka once told Peter Reid he wasn’t good enough for Leeds.

Still loved and revered at Elland Road, Viduka was part of the away kit launch for 2025/26. The majority of fans think back to the blue Strongbow away strip and Viduka scoring goals when they see this year’s version.

Mark Viduka claims he was better than Luis Suarez at Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has made an admission on Viduka previously, with the prime version of the Leeds legend way too much for most centre-backs to handle in the Premier League.

Others, like Ian Harte, believe Viduka is the best player he has played with. It’s a bold claim when considering Harte featured alongside some other outstanding footballers during an excellent era for the club.

Viduka has since provided his verdict on a number of other Premier League strikers of his era and of ones since. Speaking to LUFC on TikTok, he was asked who’s better than who for a number of players.

Mark Viduka’s four-goal haul for Leeds vs Liverpool

Speaking of strikers, Viduka also loves Patrick Bamford, and the pair are two of only 14 players to wear the number nine shirt since the year 2000, with Viduka the first on that list and Bamford the last currently.

Of course, Viduka’s most famous moment for Leeds came against Liverpool when his four-goal haul became one of the most iconic moments in Leeds’ history and in Premier League history.

His view of Suarez may not be quite as frustrating to Liverpool fans as that day was, but Viduka has certainly got under their skin for numerous different reasons on a variety of occasions.
