Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Al Hilal over the transfer of Darwin Nunez, with the Saudi Pro League club expected to pay an initial €53 million (£46.2 million), rising to €65 million (£56.6 million) with add-ons.
The deal is yet to be finalised, but Nunez is open to the move and has been given permission by Liverpool to discuss personal terms.
The striker is expected to join Al Hilal’s pre-season training camp in Germany later this week if negotiations continue to progress.
Al Hilal identified Nunez as a priority target earlier in the summer and stepped up their efforts last week. AC Milan also showed interest but were never in a position to compete financially with the Saudi side.
Al Hilal are reportedly willing to meet the 26-year-old’s wage demands in full.
Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 in a deal that could reach £85 million and has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances.
Despite showing promise, he struggled to secure a regular starting role, particularly following Arne Slot’s appointment.
Last season, Nunez started only eight Premier League matches and found the net just seven times in all competitions.
His most memorable contribution came in January when he scored twice in stoppage time to seal a comeback win at Brentford.
Liverpool previously rejected a €70 million offer from Al Nassr in January, choosing not to sell during a title push. However, with Slot overseeing a squad overhaul, the club have decided to accept Al Hilal’s proposal.
The Reds have already been active in the transfer market, signing Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, as well as Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

They also had a £110 million bid for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak turned down last week.
Should Nunez finalise his move, he would become the latest high-profile player to join the Saudi Pro League, and one of the few to make the switch while still considered in his prime.
Liverpool are expected to explore options for a replacement before the transfer window closes.
