Andre Onana is hopeful of shaking off a hamstring injury in time to feature for Manchester United against Arsenal on the opening weekend of the 2025-26 campaign.
The Cameroon international missed United’s three games on their pre-season tour of the United States after picking up the injury in training last month, although he still traveled with the squad and worked on his fitness.
Altay Bayindir played the full 90 minutes against West Ham and Everton, while Tom Heaton was handed the gloves for the clash with Bournemouth as Ruben Amorim’s side won the 2025 Premier League Summer Series.
Onana has yet to win over the fans since making the switch from Inter Milan in July 2023, keeping just nine clean sheets in each of his first two seasons at Old Trafford and being guilty of some high-profile errors.
However, the 29-year-old goalkeeper insists he is feeling “great” with less than two weeks to go before the new campaign kicks off and believes the Red Devils are ready to put the disappointment of 2024-25 behind them.
“I’m good, I feel great,” Onana told NBC Sports in Atlanta. “It’s been a few difficult weeks but yeah, hopefully, I will be back for the start of the season. I’m enjoying the training with my guys and we are looking forward.
“We are together. We know that last season was tough for us and must make sure this doesn’t happen again. We know the way. We work hard, we enjoy training together. We have fun and that is key. When we are together, we are going to be hard to beat.
“We’re happy with the way things are going. We play well, score goals and I’m happy how the team is developing themselves. Let’s see. I think it’s going to be important to have a good start against Arsenal and then everything is possible.”
