Powell joins Colchester on loan

Nottingham Forest can confirm Josh Powell has joined League Two side Colchester United on a season-long loan.

Powell has worked his way through the Academy at Forest, establishing himself as an essential part of Warren Joyce’s B Team in recent seasons.

The left-back featured in all competitions for the B Team in 2024/25, starting in the final of the Premier League International Cup win against Lyon.

Powell has spent time with the first team at Forest this summer, featuring twice for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side against Chesterfield and then in Portugal against Fulham.

The 20-year-old now heads to the Essex side for his first professional loan away from Forest.

Head of Football Development & Talent Management, Craig Mulholland, said: “This was an important loan for us to get right in this window, as it forms a critical next stage in Josh’s development journey.

“Given the success of Jamie and Aaron on loan at Colchester last year, and Ben joining this summer, we are delighted, given the excellent relationship, to again entrust Danny and his team with another Forest talent.

“We have significantly enhanced our Player Pathways strategy, and all aspects of Josh’s loan will now be carefully monitored, and where appropriate supported, by our team.”

“We wish Josh and Colchester good luck for the season.”
