Alexander Isak forced to train alone at Newcastle amid Liverpool transfer desire

Alexander Isak is training alone at Newcastle United as his future still remains unclear.

Newcastle have returned from their pre-season tour of the Far East, in which Isak did not travel. The Sweden striker, 25, was absent from the tour after making it clear he wanted to leave the club amid interest from Liverpool.

Isak is yet to play in pre-season for Newcastle after he was sent home from the friendly against Celtic last month. As Newcastle ramped up their preparations for the new season in Asia, Isak was training alone at his former club Real Sociedad.

Isak has since been told to report for training on his own and get treatment on the thigh injury, which coincided with his absence from the trip to South Korea and Singapore.

His omission from group training has sparked more concerns over his future, which now looks ominous. The Magpies confirmed that Eddie Howe would hold a barbecue for players' families and staff, but according to Sky Sports, Isak will report for training after the event.

Howe previously sent a warning to the wantaway striker on Sunday, telling ChronicleLive: "There is also another way to look at this. You have to earn the right to train with us. We’re Newcastle United.

"The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad - you have to act in the right way.

"So that is also at play here. We will make sure that any player does that to earn the right to train with the group."

Isak has been heavily linked with a British record transfer to Anfield this summer as the Reds made it clear to Newcastle they would be willing to break the £116million record they broke just weeks ago, signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool saw a £110m bid rejected by the Magpies on Friday, and are yet to return with a second bid.

Newcastle face Espanyol and Atletico Madrid on Friday and Saturday night, it's unlikely that Isak will feature in either game.
