Liverpool’s pursuit of Crystal Palace defensive mainstay Marc Guehi could be in jeopardy, with two of their bids already rejected.
Liverpool have been one of the most active clubs this summer, having already made some blockbuster moves. However, they are not done yet and are looking to add the likes of Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi to their squad.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, the Reds have been pushing hard to secure the services of the Crystal Palace mainstay. However, things have not gone according to plan as both their bids have been turned down by the Eagles.
While things did not go according to plan for Marc Guehi at Chelsea, the move to Palace has done wonders for him. The Englishman has only gone from strength to strength since, and he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
On the back of his impressive performances, Guehi has become a regular feature in the England national team. While he was linked with a move away last summer as well, the Eagles managed to hold on to the 25-year-old centre-back.
However, with just a year left on his deal, his future has once again become a big talking point. Multiple top clubs want to lure him away, but Crystal Palace are reluctant to sell unless their asking price of a minimum of €55 million is met.
Liverpool back off in Guehi chase
Liverpool are quite keen on having Marc Guehi in their squad. While the Premier League champions have added a lot of firepower to their attack by signing Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, they also want more quality and depth at the back.
The Merseyside outfit have secured the future of Virgil van Dijk with a new deal, but Ibrahima Konaté’s long-term future remains up in the air. As a result, Guehi could be just the perfect acquisition for their project. The Merseyside club have submitted two bids for the Crystal Palace defender. While the amounts have not been disclosed, the Eagles have turned them down, deeming them insulting.
They are going to stick to their demands, and the report suggests Liverpool are not ready to pay that big a fee for someone who could be available for free next summer. The Reds do not wish to continue pursuing his signature, and they could soon start looking at other options on their wishlist.
