Earlier today, reports in Italy suggested that Newcastle had come forward with a €30m bid for German international centre-back Malick Thiaw.
However, sources on Tyneside were pushing back on these claims, with Craig Hope reporting that we are exploring a deal and very much interested in the player, but are yet to lodge a formal bid.
That may have changed, as Sky Sports in Germany bring some breaking news on Wednesday afternoon.
In a post on X, Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger states: ‘Newcastle have officially submitted a written offer to AC Milan for Malick Thiaw today – worth €30m.’
He adds that former club Schalke would be due 10% of that fee due to a sell-on clause inserted when the now 23-year-old made a move to the San Siro back in August 2022.
If reports in Italy from earlier today are to be believed, Milan are likely to reject this offer, with new boss Max Allergi said to be impressed by Thiaw’s performances in recent pre-season friendlies over in the Far East.
Last week, we released an NUFCBlog exclusive that Newcastle had reignited their interest in the 6ft 4′ defender, with Toon officials taking a close look once again as he started recent friendlies against Liverpool and Arsenal last month.
