Benjamin Sesko’s decision to turn down Manchester United early in his career shows that his cause for concern is no longer an issue in the current Ruben Amorim era.
The 22-year-old Slovakia international has been with current side RB Leipzig since 2023 after the Bundesliga outfit signed the striker from RB Salzburg in 2023.
RB Leipzig paid a reported fee of around €24m to sign Benjamin Sesko, who has made a real name for himself at the German side as an emerging attacking talent.
Sesko’s stunning exploits at Leipzig have led to Premier League clubs eyeing him up, with Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester United all linked at one point or another.
United are the favourites to land Sesko this summer after the Red Devils tabled a bid on Tuesday for the Leipzig striker amid Newcastle’s fierce transfer interest in him.

Why Benjamin Sesko didn’t sign for Man Utd ahead of RB Leipzig is a real eye-opener about the Newcastle-linked striker
Arsenal are out of the race to sign Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko after the Gunners landed Sweden striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP this summer.

United’s initial approach for Sesko was an upfront payment of £65.2m, with further performance-related add-ons that would take the deal up to £73.8m in total.
Newcastle, on the other hand, saw their initial bid of £65.4m and £4.3m in add-ons rejected before returning with an improved bid of £69.7m and add-ons as well.
Sesko was linked with United when he was at RB Salzburg, but the Slovenia striker turned down the chance to move to Old Trafford and instead signed for RB Leipzig.
The Leipzig ace revealed why he didn’t sign for United and a key detail that he said back then now shows how far the complexion of the Red Devils has changed.
“The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations,” Sesko said in 2023, as per The Daily Mirror.
“But I think it was better to come here.”
The United and Newcastle target added: “It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football.
“I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again.”

Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Man Utd has now changed one thing that RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko alluded to in his remarks
Sesko made it clear that the place for him to be was Leipzig and that the German club offered the Slovenia international a “similar style of football” that he could play.
United have struggled with a clear-cut identity of football in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, but it is no longer the case with Ruben Amorim’s arrival in 2024.
Amorim has stuck with his tactical system for United and the 40-year-old ex-Sporting CP boss has refused to pivot no matter the cost of the performances last season.
The United manager’s desire to roll out his blueprint and philosophy at Old Trafford and implement one style of football now has to be an enticing prospect for Sesko.
Sesko is more than capable of leading the frontline as the solo striker in Amorim’s system and it naturally feels that he will connect with the United boss’ style of play.
