Martin Dubravka's Newcastle United exit close as Premier League switch agreed

Newcastle United are set to lose fan favourite Martin Dubravka this summer

Newcastle United's Martin Dubravka applauds the fans as they chant his name

Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is nearing a move to Burnley as his seven-year association with the Magpies comes to an end.

The Slovakian, 36, is out of contract next summer and has been linked with a move away from St James' Park since the recent arrival of fellow shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale.

Dubravka was close to leaving Newcastle for one last challenge in the Saudi Pro League back in January but instead stayed put in a time of need for Eddie Howe's side.

This time around, his exit will materialise as he heads to Turf Moor as a James Trafford replacement following his recent transfer to Manchester City.

Dubravka's representatives have been in talks with Burnley for weeks, with the goalkeeper missing Newcastle's recent Far East trip due to a minor shoulder issue.

Sky Sports have reported medical tests are in the process of being undertaken in the north west.

Dubravka has enjoyed his fair share of ups and downs on Tyneside, starting out as a hero in the north east as he helped United to safety on numerous occasions.

His standing took a battering as he made an ill-fated loan move to Manchester United but last season saw the veteran stopper reconnect with the Newcastle faithful as he filled in expertly in the absence of Nick Pope.

Chronicle Live reported earlier on Wednesday that work was being undertaken to find a new home for fellow backup stopper, Odysseas Vlachodimos, who featured for only 45 competitive minutes last season.

Howe will ideally want to retain a healthy goalkeeping department heading into the new season, which could suggest a quintet of Pope, Ramsdale, John Ruddy, Mark Gillespie and young gun Max Thompson, who recently played for the senior side while out in Asia.
