Celtic Linked to Another Defender as Italian Report Emerges

Despite the arrival of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan, Celtic continue to be linked with reinforcements at the back, with reports in Italy suggesting the Hoops have now set their sights on Cagliari defender Adam Obert.

The 22-year-old Slovakian centre-back, who stands at 6ft 1in, has been on the books of the Serie A outfit since 2021 and has started to establish himself in Italy’s top flight. However, it’s understood that Celtic have yet to meet Cagliari’s valuation, with the Italian side in no rush to sanction a sale until they bring in adequate replacements, reports L’Unione Sarda..

While the Slovak international could represent long-term value, the timing of the interest is curious. Brendan Rodgers already has a full contingent of centre-halves available, with Simpson-Pusey joining Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Auston Trusty, Dane Murray, and Stephen Welsh.

However, he can play at left-back when need be.

Celtic’s priorities remain up for debate among supporters, but few would place another centre-back at the top of the shopping list. With wingers in desperately short supply, many fans are calling for urgent additions further up the park.

Whether the Obert links materialise into anything more concrete remains to be seen, but unless outgoings are in the pipeline, another central defender would feel like an unexpected move at this stage in the window.
