“Still Recovering From Back Soreness”: Los Angeles Rams Could Start Jimmy Garoppolo In Week 1…

The Los Angeles Rams won the NFC West division during the 2024 NFL season. The Rams easily defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the wild card round, but Los Angeles almost pulled off the upset in the divisional round against the Philadelphia Eagles.

One of the reasons why the Rams were good last season is because of how well quarterback Matthew Stafford played. Well entering the 2025 NFL season, Stafford is already faced with injury battles. This could potentially affect Los Angeles entering Week 1 against the Houston Texans as well.

Los Angeles Rams Could Potentially Start Jimmy Garoppolo Over Matthew Stafford In Week 1 Because Of Injury

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports listed five different names who could potentially be starting in Week 1 or at some other point during the 2025 NFL season. One name that Benjamin listed was Jimmy Garoppolo for the Rams. Because of the injury to Stafford, his status for Week 1 seems to be up in the air. If he is not available for Week 1, it could be a problem.

Benjamin said,

“Los Angeles is a popular playoff pick after Matthew Stafford flashed his signature arm talent last postseason, then welcomed Davante Adams to his arsenal this offseason. But Stafford is also 37, still recovering from back soreness that’s kept him sidelined for all of camp. And he’s battled plenty of other bumps and bruises the last few years, even contemplating retirement. That screams potential opportunity for Garoppolo, who quietly served as the Rams’ No. 2 in 2024 after the better part of a decade as a starter. “Jimmy G” once helped the rival San Francisco 49ers to NFC title games. Might he have the chance to do the same for L.A.?”

Garoppolo was also with the Rams during the 2024 NFL season under head coach Sean McVay. He completed 65.9% of his passes for 334 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in limited game action last season with Los Angeles. Garoppolo is also 33 years old. If the Rams need to win games with Garoppolo at quarterback instead of Stafford, maybe they will be just fine, but Stafford’s health already has to be a concern however moving forward.
