‘Here we go’: Fabrizio Romano confirms Wolves have missed out on ‘elite’ transfer to rivals

One player Wolves tried to sign this summer is headed to the Midlands, but not to WV1.

Wolves have signed three players so far, but the list of talent the Old Gold are understood to have shown interest in is far longer.

Vitor Pereira’s side have suffered two transfer misses so far, with a deal for Marc Pubill being hijacked and fellow right-back target Juanlu Sanchez choosing Napoli over Wolves.

It’s not only on the right side of defence that Wolves are having trouble recruiting, as it’s become clear that one of Wolves’ attacking targets will not make the move to Molineux.

Aston Villa set to sign Wolves target Evann Guessand

In June, Wolves made an offer to sign Evann Guessand from OGC Nice.

The West Midlands club’s approach was too low, with the French side holding out for a £25m transfer fee.

Competition then built, as Crystal Palace showed an interest in Guessand, but it’s not the Eagles who are set to land the 24-year-old after all.

Fabrizio Romano dropped a ‘here we go’ to confirm the Ivorian’s next destination, with the striker on his way to Villa Park.

Aston Villa are set to pay a package worth £30m for Guessand, bringing him close to Molineux without representing Wolves.

It was always going to be difficult for Wolves to keep up with their pursuit of Guessand, who, having contributed to 23 goals in the French top-flight last season, is deserving of his price tag.

Attacking signings needed at Molineux

Though Wolves pulled off a great deal by signing Jhon Arias, the 27-year-old can’t be the Old Gold’s only addition to the front three this summer.

Dubbed ‘elite’, Guessand could’ve restored some of the goal threat Wolves lost this summer through the departures of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Wolves fans wanted to see Guessand arrive, but Villa have won the race, while the West Midlands club continue their search to bolster their attack.

Fosun must invest appropriately to strengthen Pereira’s attack after losing 21 goals’ worth of talent in Cunha.
