Manchester United have made progress in their quest to sign Benjamin Sesko.

Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has signalled his approval to the club's hopes of landing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

The Manchester Evening News reported earlier on Wednesday that the club are confident that the 22-year-old prefers a move to Old Trafford over Newcastle United. Both teams have submitted bids for the striker in the last week with Newcastle offering more.

United have bid €75million (£65.3m) plus €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons to sign Sesko while the Magpies are thought to have raised their latest bid to €80m (£69.8m) including add-ons.

Despite having no Champions League football to offer, unlike Newcastle, it's understood that Sesko wants to sign for United. The Slovenia international, 22, previously turned down the chance to head to Old Trafford - in favour to swap RB Salzburg for Leipzig.

On Wednesday, United took a huge step towards making Sesko their fourth signing of the summer. Ineos have already added Cunha, Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo to Ruben Amorim's squad, but a striker is the top priority before the window shuts.

In the aftermath of the news that United had grew confidence of landing Sesko, Cunha has seemingly approved the arrival of his potential new teammate. Popular Instagram page '433' - with over 77million followers - posted a graphic of Sesko celebrating in a United shirt just like Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Sesko grew up idolising ex-United star Ibrahimovic, admitting in 2023 that he admired his aura on the pitch. The graphic on Instagram was liked by Cunha, something the summer signing previously did before Mbeumo signed.
