Report: Man Utd contacted 'last-minute' to sign £327,000-a-week striker instead of Sesko

Manchester United have been presented the opportunity to sign Juventus talisman Dusan Vlahovic, according to reports - with the Red Devils having made a decision not to sign him to their attacking ranks, instead seeing the target man as a 'last-minute gamble' option.

Vlahovic burst onto the scene at Fiorentina in the 2020/21 campaign, scoring 21 Serie A goals that season at the age of just 20; whilst his form in the following half-season saw him score 17 goals in just 21 games, prompting a move to Turin. He started well, with seven goals in his first half season at the Allianz Stadium, though last season was his worst yet with just 10 strikes in 29 games, and Juventus want to shift him amid underwhelming form and a huge wage of £327,000-a-week.

The report by Italian outlet Tuttosport states that Vlahovic has been offered to United as an emergency option for a striker, with the Serbian likely to be on his way out of the Allianz Stadium this summer.

It's thought to be a surprise that Vlahovic hasn't left Juventus yet, with time passing in the transfer window, and there has been no breakthrough for him just yet after a summer of patience for Bianconeri boss Thiago Motta.

With that in mind, recent hours have seen Juventus feel the need to 'increase' their efforts to shift the former Fiorentina star, and his intermediaries are proposing a potential move to Old Trafford, as United look to add a new striker to their ranks in the coming days.

However, the response of INEOS and Ruben Amorim wasn't what Juventus were hoping for. Instead, the Red Devils have said no to the idea of welcoming Vlahovic into their ranks, despite shortfalls in their striking department over the last year in the form of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to come up with the goods in front of goal.

RB Leipzig Benjamin Sesko is considered the primary target after United lodged a bid for him on Tuesday, with Vlahovic a 'last-minute gamble' if nothing works out with the Slovenian star should he instead opt for Newcastle United in a late twist to the saga.
