Milan eyeing Manchester United striker who could be available after Sesko deal - Manchester United News

AC Milan are keeping tabs on Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund. The Italian giants are understood to be long term admirers of the player, and Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that they are eyeing a loan deal with an option to buy if he becomes available.

Manchester United are advancing in negotiations with RB Leipzig on an €80m deal for striker Benjamin Sesko, who’s arrival is expected to push Hojlund down the pecking order at Old Trafford. Hojlund’s time at United has been marred with inconsistency.

Hojlund joined United from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 for €74 million plus €10 million in add-ons, but has managed just 11 goals in 58 appearances since.

The Danish striker scored just four Premier League goals last season as United suffered their worst ever league campaign. United on a whole scored just 44 Premier League goals in 2024/2025.

Hojlund reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester United this summer, stating in a recent interview that he is ready to fight for his place at the club.

Sesko deal could spell the end for Hojlund

Milan enquired about Hojlund earlier in the summer, following departures of Luka Jovic and Tammy Abraham. Santiago Gimenez remains the club’s only established No.9.

With Gimenez missing the club’s preseason tour due to his involvement in the Gold Cup this summer, Milan experimented with Rafeal Leao as a central striker. The need for another established striker is apparent.

As for United, the club has invested heavily into attacking reinforcements, bringing in Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Sesko would take their spending above £200m as the Red Devils looks to rebuild after a horror campaign.

Hojlund’s future has come under intense speculation following two disappointing seasons. The same can be said for Hojlund’s main striker competitor Joshua Zirkzee. The two combined for just seven goals last season with many of the United faithful calling for change.
