NBA Teams Reportedly ‘Keeping An Eye On’ Heat Star

The Miami Heat are now infamous for being very resistant to change, but they might be cooking up something for 2025-26.

According to Brett Siegel, other teams around the league have “been monitoring” Tyler Herro’s situation with the Heat.

If the Heat choose not to give Herro a big extension, other teams could attempt to woo him away.

“Tyler Herro becomes eligible for a three-year extension worth near $150 million with the Miami Heat in October before the start of the 2025-26 season. This is a situation teams are keeping an eye on, as Pat Riley has always been cautious with giving out extensions (see Jimmy Butler’s situation for details). A decision to extend or not to extend Herro will tell the tale of how the Heat view themselves in the East,” said Siegel, via NBACentral.

Miami’s choice with Herro could have huge implications on him, the team, and the rest of the league.

Not only would it send a massive message to Herro and show his value to the team, but it would also tell other squads how the Heat view themselves, too.

If they give Herro his extension, it’ll be clear that they think he will be part of their future for years to come.

But if they don’t, it’ll show that they see him as expendable and also that they want to save their money.

Why would they want to hold onto their cash?

Obviously, it would be because they are planning other moves in the future, like acquiring big-name talent with large price points.

As mentioned, the Heat don’t often pursue A-list stars, but maybe that will change soon, and Miami’s decision with Herro could mark the beginning of a new chapter.
