Everton have signed midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea for a undisclosed fee. The English international has signed a five-year contract with the Blues.
The midfielder has become David Moyes's fifth signing since returning to the club in January 2024 and has added much need depth to a position which is short on numbers.
Last summer Dewsbury-Hall followed Enzo Maresca to Stamford Bridge where his minutes were limited with the likes of £106.8m Enzo Fernandez and £115m Moises Caicedo competing in his position. In the Premier League he only featured 13 times and only played in 258 minutes
However, the 26-year-old played a key role in Chelsea's triumph when they won the UEFAConference League**** dispatching Real Betis in the final 4-1, where he set up Jadon Sancho.
During the tournament he bagged three goal and three assist in 13 matches. The former Leicester man featured in the Club World Cup scoring against Benfica and played in the final against PSG as Chelsea became the first team to win the edition.
While at Leicester, Dewsbury-Hall was integral in the Foxes's immediate return to the Premier League registering12 goals and 14 assist in 44 games as Leicester won the Championship in 2023/24.
Speaking to Evertontv the English international stated his excitement to join the club for a undisclosed fee.
"I'm honestly very excited, my family's excited There's a real buzz about this. It feels right for me. So just that alone gives me the motivation and the extra determination to show everybody, to prove a point and have a really successful time here."
"Everton's one of the biggest clubs in the country, and I think that in the next couple of years, the future is going to be bright. It was an easy decision in the end to come here and play for this club."
"Then the fan base is one of the most passionate in the country, so I know if we start playing well and I start showing the fans what I'm about, it's going to be a big, big bonus to help me and the team show our best. So that's what I want."
What will he bring to an Everton side
The lack of goals has been an issue for Everton for a numerous of years never and goals from midfield seem to be none existence with former Blue Abdoulaye Docuoure scoring the most with four. James Garner, Idrissa Gana Gueye both got zero, while loanee Orel Mangala only scored once.
While Idrissa Gueye is a ball-winner and a defensive midfielder so it isn't particularly in his game, the likes of James Garner has to start contributing more especially the quality he can possesses, his assist against Leicester last season a fine example but that was his only assist last campaign.
Dewsbury-Hall will provide more output from midfield and even in his limited game time last season in the Conference League he was effective and was a key player in Chelsea's path to victory.
Versatility is also provide with Dewsbury-Hall as he can play in the '8', '6' and the '10' position and could remind Evertonians of Tim Cahill.
Cahill was similar a box-to-box midfielder who consistently provided Everton with the goals in David Moyes's first stint at the club. The Australian is forth on Everton's all time Premier League top goalscorer with 56 and was always one for the occasion.
Same can be said for Tomas Soucek who is known for his late runs in the box and getting on the end of things. In his first season at the West Ham, with David Moyes the Czech international bagged ten goals and the Blues will hope Moyes can replicate the same output with his new midfielder.
On his latest signing the 62-year-old is pleased that the former Leicester man has joined the club and ready to kick-start what will be a historical year for the club starting their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
"He had other clubs interested in signing him but he was excited by the opportunity and the challenge at Everton."
“Kiernan’s quality and experience of the Premier League gives us the hope that he can adapt quickly."
Everton face As Roma in their last pre-season test before starting their Premier League campaign against Leeds United on Monday 18th.
