Melissa Reddy: Alexander Isak stance revealed after Newcastle banishment following Liverpool…

Alexander Isak is frustrated at his situation at Newcastle United after he was banished from first-team training as he looks to push through a move to Liverpool, according to journalist Melissa Reddy.

The Sweden international has asked to leave St James' Park this summer after growing annoyed that the club didn't offer him a new contract 12 months ago, and they have failed to match his £300,000-a-week wage demands during the most recent talks over an extension.

Liverpool have tabled a formal offer worth in excess of £110m for Isak, which was immediately rejected by Newcastle, but the player has now been told to train away from the first-team squad while his future gets sorted.

Feels he gave the club plenty of notice that he wanted to leave

Isak chose not to go on the club's pre-season tour of Asia and spent last week training with his former club Real Sociedad in Spain, with Eddie Howe admitting that he was made aware of the player's whereabouts through media reports.

Howe has now instructed the 26-year-old to report to the training ground at a separate time to the rest of the squad this week while his future is resolved, and it has now emerged that Isak isn't happy at the situation as his team made it clear to Newcastle chiefs that he wanted to leave before the summer window even opened.

"The frustration for Alexander Isak and his camp is they feel they very clearly and respectfully informed Newcastle of the forward‘s desire to explore a fresh challenge well ahead of this summer.

"In doing so, it afforded the club the chance to attack the market on the front foot and secure a quality replacement long before it got to this messy point.

"It‘s not Isak’s fault Newcastle have had a mare, missing out on so many of their top targets. If anything, it probably hardens the belief that their approach and ambition doesn’t align with his. There is no solid recruitment foundation."

Newcastle so far have taken the public stance that Isak is not for sale this summer, with a valuation of £150m to even begin conversations over a transfer.

But there is an acceptance that Isak's stance means he must either extend his contract or be sold, and the belief is that should the club secure replacements for him then he will be allowed to move in a British record transfer.

GMS sources have revealed that the club are keen on a double deal for Yoane Wissa and Ollie Watkins after missing out on Benjamin Sesko, while Nicolas Jackson has also been eyed as a potential target.
