Newcastle United now being strongly linked with move for Chelsea striker as club starts to…

· 6 August 2025, 18:30

The trend of Newcastle United missing out on top players to one of the Sky Six continues as it appears Manchester United have won the race to sign Benjamin Sesko.

Newcastle have now seen Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike, Liam Delap and Sesko choose other Premier League destinations as the Magpies hunt for a top striker to replace want-away Alexander Isak.

Isak's departure is starting to look inevitable as he appears to have burnt all of his bridges at the club, but if Newcastle can't find a suitable replacement, he may be forced to stick it out for another year, which would make things very awkward around the dressing room.

It had felt like Benjamin Sesko was the last of the top-class strikers who were available this summer, although maybe not the last option on the list for Newcastle, with Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson having been mentioned several times.

Chelsea want £80 million for Nicolas Jackson

Nicolas Jackson feels like a sidestep from Darwin Nunez in that his numbers paint a decent picture - 30 goals in 81 games isn't mindblowing, but is better than we expected; however, like Nunez, he's remembered more for the chances he didn't take.

Now, Geordie Boot Boys have claimed that Chelsea would want around £80 million for the striker they paid just £32 million for two years ago.

We already weren't keen on Jackson, but at that price, they have to be having a laugh. I guess they've got to claw money back from somewhere after buying another three billion players this summer, but come on.

A half-arsed Alexander Isak > Nicolas Jackson

Last season, Jackson managed 13 goals and six assists in 37 outings. There is no way on this strange planet of Earth that he can be considered as a replacement for Alexander Isak, and certainly, he is not worth £80 million.

We'd rather keep an unhappy Isak at the club against his will, and play him knowing we're only going to get him at 50% than have Jackson for £80 million.
