Man United are looking to sell several players this summer to boost their finances.
Manchester United’s biggest issue at the moment is certainly financial. The Red Devils have had a net spend of over £658m in the past five years, and are in desperate need of extra transfer funds which will only arrive via player sales.
Man United reject Maguire approaches
Harry Maguire looked set to leave United a couple of summers ago, as there was serious interest from West Ham. However, no move materialised, and since then, he has become a bigger part of the United team, especially last year under Ruben Amorim.
The England international signed a one-year extension to his contract in January, but at the age of 32, he is attracting interest from several clubs yet again. According to a report by the Daily Mail, United have rejected approaches from five clubs in the Premier League and Serie A for Maguire.
It seems the Red Devils want to keep Maguire, and the centre-back wants to stay at Old Trafford. The report also says that the interested clubs have been told that the likelihood is that Maguire will sign a contract extension at Man United and spend the rest of his career with the Red Devils. His current £190,000 per week contract expires at the end of the coming season.
If that is true, it is an impressive turnaround in form for Maguire, who lost his captaincy at United just two seasons ago, under Erik Ten Hag. But, he seems to have flourished in Amorim’s system, and the new United boss must be very keen on the 32-year-old.
Who could Man United sell in the coming weeks?
The closer and closer we get to transfer deadline day, the concern at United is mounting as they are yet to make a sale, which will really help to balance the books at Old Trafford, which could be damaging to the ownership and their ability to put more money into the club.
Alejandro Garnacho has attracted serious attention from rivals Chelsea, and it has been reported that the 20-year-old winger has given his priority to the Blues, and talks have taken place on the player’s side. However, no talks have begun between Man United and Chelsea yet, but the Blues are expected to approach the end of the transfer window.
It is not understood how much United will demand for Garnacho, but it is expected to be at least £40m, which will certainly help recover some of the funds that they have already spent this summer on Cunha, Mbeumo, and potentially Sesko.
