The Jacksonville Jaguars must be pleased with Trevor Lawrence. After working on his footwork and how to better use his eyes in the offseason, the fifth-year quarterback has shown notable improvement in training camp. However, he will need to keep making strides if he wants to once and for all put questions about his consistency to rest.
Lawrence has put together several encouraging displays throughout training camp. His best one might've arguably come at the mock game. John Shipley of Sports Illustrated took note of his performance and gave him a positive review, pointing out that the former Clemson Tiger was nearly flawless.
Following Day 10 of training camp, Lawrence met with reporters and talked about the mock game, noting that he felt the offense as a whole looked well.
"I thought we operated really smoothly. I think it was still left a couple plays out there," Lawrence said (13:30 mark). "That's always going to be the case, probably, not going to play perfect, but I thought there was a couple of plays I definitely left out there. But I think that's just an offense overall; we operated clean, not a ton of penalties, just having the call mentally, move the ball, playing situational football. That's fun. You know, practice, you play situations, but they're all in blocks."
Lawrence continued, "So sometimes, it doesn't always feel like a game because of the flow, it's just different, so it was nice having the clock moving. Every play is spotted about where it would have gone down. You play every second along third and short, third and medium. You play all the situations. We got a two-minute drive in all those things. It feels more, a little more realistic as far as the game flow. So I thought that was really good, some stuff to build off of."
Later in the exchange, Lawrence acknowledged that the offense struggled a bit on Day 10 but still feels good about his overall progress.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence's biggest test lays ahead in the 2025 season
Trevor Lawrence spent the offseason recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered last year. However, he said when training camp started that he's the healthiest he's been in a while. Having checked off a massive box, No. 16 now must focus on building consistency for the 2025 season. And that's the thing, nobody will ever doubt that he's talented. However, he's had trouble staying healthy, which has, in turn, prevented him from being consistent.
Granted, Lawrence didn't have a great supporting cast in past years, and the past coaching staff didn't do much to help him. That said, his overall mechanics and decision-making in 2024 left a bit before desired, so he most definitely deserves a bit of blame for his underwhelming play. The good news is that the new regime is making a great effort to change all that.
For starters, head coach Liam Coen has actively helped Lawrence hone his mechanics. Moreover, the front office has bolstered his arsenal of weapons and beefed up the offensive line to ensure he has enough time to throw the ball.
Now, Lawrence needs to take the next step and take advantage of all the help the Jaguars are giving him. If he does, he'll once again play like a top-10 quarterback and have the consistency he's been missing throughout his career. Based on his work in training camp, he's trending in the right direction.
